venice biennale 2012
Slee & Co. Architects took part in the 13th International Architecture Exhibition, La Biennale di Venezia 2012, at the Palazzo Bembo in Venice, Italy with the theme “Common Ground”.
We participated in one of 13 collateral events, “Traces of Centuries & Futures Steps which presents 60 architects from 6 continents, representing 26 countries and one of only two participants from South Africa.
With our exhibition installation we explored the interconnection between intellectual and physical boundaries. The physical ostrich egg represents immense strength and is at the same time symbolical of the absolute preciousness and vulnerability of our earth.
Idiom: "Om op eiers te loop" (Afrikaans): to tread very carefully & "Walk on eggs": to proceed very cautiously; to be in a precarious position.
